Let's Talk About Living and Dying
Based on requests and feedback, we are re-launching the Death Café to be known as Let’s Talk About Living and Dying. The format is changing some to include occasional speakers, focused conversations, local resources, an occasional book review, announcements of upcoming events and of course refreshments. These sessions focus particularly on open conversations with no expectation of outcomes We are all going to die - but we can be hesitant to talk about it. By coming together to talk about death and dying, we also begin to talk about life and living. The intent of our conversation is to raise our consciousness about our shared mortality so we can live our live fully. The way we think about living and dying has a profound influence on how we see our world. The fear of death can haunt us like nothing else and so we avoid talking about it. We will share stories and talk about death so as to make the most out of every day we are alive. No one is immune to this natural part of life. Quotes from past sessions include: “I want to live fully and I now understand that difficult conversations are sometimes the most liberating.” “In this limited time I’ve got, I want to prioritize what I need to do.” “Being here has really prepared me to go home and talk with my daughter.” We want to continue to bring the conversations about death into mainstream culture. Our facilitated conversations will be focused on living and dying. There will be selected questions to stimulate our starting point. All conversations are confidential, accessible and respectful of all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religion/faith, ethnicity and disability. It is not a grief support or counseling session. It is free from ideology with no agenda towards any conclusion about life, death or life after death. Rather, it is a confidential place to explore one’s own thoughts and feelings. Join us, have a cup of tea and a snack and discuss life and death. This first refocused meeting will be Saturday, April 21st at Vashon Intuitive Arts from 3 to 4:30 PM and continue every third Saturday at Vashon Intuitive Arts from 3 to 4:30 PM. Donations gladly accepted. Please call Susan Pitiger @ 206-818-4232 or Jane Neubauer 206-567-5404 with questions.
