Now you can at Vashon Island Rowing Club’s National Learn-to-Row Day (NLTRD) on Saturday, June 2 from 1 to 4pm at Jensen Point Boathouse (Burton Peninsula). NLTRD is a nation-wide event sponsored by USRowing and locally by VIRC. Free and open to the public, this is a great opportunity to get out on the water and learn what the sport is all about. Women, men, and youth, ages 12 through adult, are welcome to attend. After signing the club waiver, you’ll practice the rowing stroke on an “erg” rowing machine, and then go out on the water in a rowing shell with experienced VIRC members to get a taste of this fun, total body sport. Club members will answer all your questions about masters (adult) and junior (8th grade-HS) rowing on Vashon-Maury Island. If you want to take a rowing class, sign-up sheets for the VIRC Adult Learn-to-Row Class in July and Vashon Island Junior Crew (VIJC) Summer Rowing Camp will be available. For more information, contact Debby Jackson, NLTRD Coordinator, at 206-463-3729 or email at membership.virc.dj@gmail.com.
