Unofficial Mayor Applicant Agreement
The Unofficial Mayor Contest is a joint campaign by The Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce and participating Vashon Island charities.
Your non-profit organization will commit to provide 15% of total donations gathered during the campaign to the Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce via check at the close of the contest.
The Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce will not receive donations on the charity's behalf. All donations must go to the non-profit directly.
Selected non-profits must be Vashon-based 501c3 organizations.
The participating non-profit must submit a signed letter giving the candidate permission to fundraise for them and copy of their IRS certification to the Chamber of Commerce by July 1, 2021
Mayoral candidates are encouraged to use multiple avenues for donation collection and not rely on "Donation Buckets". Social media, GoFundMe pages, fundraising events, etc. are all appropriate.
A final check addressed to the Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce of 15% of total donations at close of campaign on 6/17 is required to qualify.
Cash from jars will NOT be collected by the Chamber.
The candidate with the most money raised is elected Unofficial Mayor.
The winner is verified by the Chamber Board of Directors on July 17, 2021.
Winner will be invited to be showcased in special events for the public until the 2022 campaign. This will provide the sponsoring non-profit more opportunities to advertise their organization.
The mayoral term lasts until the following year's Mayor is elected or by a majority vote of the Chamber Board.
