Vashon Island, WA - Sports Destination Management, the leading publication with the largest circulation of sports event planners and tournament directors in the sports tourism market, has announced the 2017 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism. This year’s winners are responsible for contributing more than $400 million to the national economy over the past year.

Among the winners was Passport 2 Pain on Vashon Island.

The Passport 2 Pain is a fun ride that draws cyclists from all over the area to take on the toughest hills and have a great party. The P2P started in September 2011 with 53 riders and has grown to over 400 riders. The ride sprang from the off-season training rides members of the Vashon Island Rowing Club. They decided to share the “joy” and set the ride up as a fundraiser for their club and their youth rowing programs. The ride takes place annually and has become a must do event for area cyclists. The P2P gets local organizations, businesses and the Chamber of Commerce involved to set up 18 different stops each with creative themes. The P2P plays a big part in showcasing the local businesses, the beauty and wackiness of Vashon Island. Riders can choose from a short, medium or 80 miles long route that take them on the toughest hills in the area. The P2P and has become a marque event that showcases Vashon Island as a great place for cyclists and their families to visit on a regular basis.
