King County Council Ordinance #2018-0241.2 will endanger Vashon Tasting Rooms
We need your help to save small businesses on Vashon!
This is a complex issue so we will have representatives from the various beverage producers on hand who have been working on this issue to answer your questions about the proposed ordinance. We all have a stake in how we are governed and we think this is an important issue.
This is urgent, we just learned that this Ordinance comes to vote on Monday September 16th and we need your help taking action.
We will have talking points and contact information available for you if you stop by. We will even have some libations and noshes as well.
Legislation without Representation!
King County Council paid a consultant $75,000 to study the impact of the adult beverage industries in unincorporated King County. The consultant studied only the dozens of tasting rooms in Sammamish Valley and never set foot on Vashon Island. They did not study the impact of the proposed legislation on Vashon Island’s fragile business economy. Some of our treasured wineries and cideries could be shut down by harsh measures intended to help Sammamish Valley but not needed on Vashon Island.

Thankfully, Councilmember Joe McDermott has spent the last year listening to Island stakeholders and has proposed a solution that supports Vashon businesses. Please take a moment to call King County Legislators and leave a message on their voice mail. We’ve included a sample message below in support of Joe McDermott’s Amendment.
Help us make sure Vashon Island is represented. We need to tell King County Council that Vashon Island is not Sammamish Valley.
