Tip The Scales: Maggie Laird Trio
Maggie Laird sings at the keyboard, and is joined by Dennis Staskowski on upright bass and husband Todd Zimberg on drums.
Expect unusual takes on a mix of favorites and award-winning originals. Maggie's song "One More Manhattan" received First Place in the Jazz category in the 2018 International West Coast Songwriters contest.
Maggie is known to Vashon audiences as vocalist with Island Jazz Quintet and the Portage Fill-Harmonic Big Band. With numerous studio projects to her credit, Maggie recorded her first solo album with producer Fett of Azalea Music in Nashville. In a 5-star review in All That Jazz, Jim Olin notes, "This EP unveils Laird's versatility, from vocal jazz to country to pop. Laird balances it all with a soulful, sexy vocal style and stellar instrumentation from her top-drawer band."
The versatile trio performs these songs, some new originals, and unusual covers by artists including Tom Waits, Peggy Lee, and Kurt Weill.
"Her music can be thought of as jazz with a pop sensibility, displaying her roots in rock, pop, cabaret and the theatre while always having the spirit of jazz." -Scott Yanow, author of The Jazz Singers
