Overview
- Community Transportation Coordinator (CTC) for the Vashon Island King County Community Van program
- 0.5 FTE, no benefits
- $37,000 per year, 20 hours per week
- King County to provide a computer and cell phone for use while employed
- Shared office space located in the Vashon Island Chamber of Commerce Building
Job Duties
- Promote transportation options and serve as a primary contact for community transportation inquiries.
- Attend local events, engage with community groups, and deliver presentations to raise awareness of transportation options.
- Utilize social media, websites, and existing communication channels to promote transportation services.
- Ensure availability of informational materials (brochures, comment cards) at Hubs and to public service agencies serving transportation-dependent populations.
- Coordinate with Metro and the Vashon Island Chamber of Commerce to provide service performance and compliance reports.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteer drivers; provide ongoing updates on policies and procedures.
- Maintain Community Vans, including regular inspections, coordinating with Metro for service, and addressing maintenance or operational concerns. There are currently three (3) vans on Vashon Island (1) 12p Chevy Express, (2) ADA Dodge Grand Caravan
- Assist with van cleaning, fueling, daily inspections, and fare collection processes as needed.
- Train drivers on accessible van equipment and provide trip and rider information.
- Apply equity and social justice principles as part of daily work and King County’s foundational expectations
- Represent both the Vashon Island Chamber of Commerce and King County for our local community van program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Knowledge of customer service etiquette.
- Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective conflict resolution skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including composing and editing correspondence.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and provide CPR/first aid assistance.
- Experience communicating with diverse populations.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work in stressful environments.
- Skill in prioritizing, delegating, and managing tasks.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to read and interpret relevant documents related to the position.
Necessary Special Requirement:
- A valid Washington State driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one by time of hire, is required.
