The Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce seeks to hire a Marketing and Communication Director to lead the Chamber of Commerce. This position will be responsible for executing on the organization's strategic plan including promotion of business members, coordination of educational webinars, partnership with local organizations, and execution of community events. Applicants need to be able to demonstrate work experience managing social media campaigns and consumer marketing initiatives.
The position is supported by the Board of Directors. This is a permanent part-time position, up to 30 hours per week.

Full Job Description:

The Marketing and Communications Director needs to be experienced developing and executing projects and events that contribute to the growth and engagement of a business community. This work includes planning and executing communication strategies that combine both on and off-line methods, developing and promoting content, reaching out through a variety of social media channels, and partnering with relevant non-profit and local government groups. Technically savvy, analytically inclined, and self-motivated to achieve, this role will enjoy the challenge of refining and defining how to reach and engage consumers. Duties will include project management, ad creation and management, status reporting and marketing data analysis. An understanding of Vashon business community is critical to the success of this position.
Essential Job Functions will include:

  • Work collaboratively with Board of Directors to support the execution of a comprehensive strategy addressing both growth and engagement of businesses and strategies to support economic recovery post-COVID.
  • Work with board committees to Welcome Consumers to the Community, Promote Community Businesses, Manage Finance and Membership, Provide Business Education, and Execute Community Events
  • Coordinate board meetings, Membership Networking Coffees, and Monthly Membership Meetings
  • Drive insights initiatives, both in-person and online, to understand business segments and their needs
  • Manage domains and all Chamber registrations
  • Develop and deploy marketing plans to support member business growth including:
    • Execution of email and ad campaigns in support of member business growth objectives
    • Develop digital marketing reporting and key metrics
    • Manage and maintain Chamber CRM and email marketing lists
    • Leverage social media to drive business community growth and engagement
    • Optimize website (s) and social media for SEO

The focus of this job is making connections with people, motivating, and inspiring them to achieve results for the business community and Chamber members. Poise and an engaging, empathetic communication style based on natural warmth and enthusiasm is the key to achieving the goals of this job. The work involves driving toward results by enrolling the commitment and buy-in of others. While the job requires strong initiative and self-direction, results are only achieved with and through people. A sincere appreciation for people, the Vashon community, and its businesses and how they are each uniquely motivated is the foundation for designing and implementing interactive communication and decision-making processes. Knowledge and skill in how to successfully influence and persuade others by understanding how their individual needs and motivations link to goals is essential. The job requires a high degree of “selling” of ideas to support the organizational objectives and for the business community. The job environment is fast paced and results oriented. While there is urgency to goal achievement, responsibility for the achievement of results needs to be shared and effectively delegated

to volunteers or other partner organizations when necessary. Initiating projects and processes beyond established organization traditions will often require enlisting board and community support by using a “selling” rather “telling” communication style. A self-confident, extroverted style that can enliven, engage, and positively impact individuals and groups is essential. The job has variety of tasks and is dynamic and changing. Because goals and desired results can quickly change, the job requires regularly meeting and pro-actively establishing relationships with businesses, non-profit organizations, and other government groups. The ability to understand, quickly react and motivate others to adapt to the changing island and community environment is a critical key to success. In general, the core of this position requires a motivated and motivating team builder and organization developer.
