About Us

Open Space for Arts & Community is a multi-use arts and community center on Vashon Island. It is a large, flexible gathering place that hosts celebrations, classes, and performances of all kinds that serve the community at large with artists at the core. We offer a lively and diverse range of arts, including concerts, dance nights, theatre and circus performances, and more.

Classes at Open Space include aerial, aikido, parkour, yoga, and circus skills, as well as construction skills hosted by the Vashon Tool Library. Arts groups in residence at Open Space include the UMO Ensemble and the UMO School of Physical Arts.

Open Space has hosted over 300 events and productions, including community events such as the 2016 Democratic caucuses (with more than 2000 people), and artistic events such as sold out appearances by Macklemore, Trevor Hall, and other internationally renowned artists. Open Space has proven itself as Vashon's community gathering space for fundraisers and large celebrations. Under our roof, island non-profits have raised over $2,500,000.

ORBIT (Open Space Recreational Base for Island Teenagers), the youth center at Open Space, provides meaningful opportunities for high school-aged students on Vashon Island.

Open Space for Arts & Community has more than 23,000 square feet of flexible and professional spaces consisting of multiple rooms of various sizes. There are two theaters, the Grand Hall and The Bruce Black Box theater, and five multipurpose rooms that are used for rehearsals, classes and meetings. The 10 acre property features meadows and mountain views.
