Park District Facility Closures as of March 13th.

Dear Vashon Park District friends and patrons,

This probably comes as no surprise that, due to mounting local and national measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Vashon Park District feels the urgent need to respond to staff and public health safety concerns, as well. Effective tomorrow (Friday, March 13), VPD will close the following facilities for a minimum of two weeks:
  • Ober Park Administration Building
    • All reservations for the Exercise Room activities must be canceled. Front desk customer service will be closed.
    • Administrative duties will be addressed remotely as much as possible with limited staff in the office. Phone calls will be returned as promptly as possible.
    • The playground will be open; we are ordering a porta potty for public use.
  • Vashon Public Pool
  • BARC Building
  • VES Fields
Paid facility reservations will be promptly refunded. Club sport per player fees will be adjusted accordingly.

All other parks will remain open. Public restrooms and porta potties will remain open. In an effort to encourage social distancing, we strongly discourage group activities at Paradise Ridge and Jensen Point.

Please know that these closure decisions have been made not only out of concern for staff and general community safety, but primarily due to our sense of responsibility and respect for our high risk community members. We have been following the practices of King and Pierce County park and recreation agencies and are finding that most are increasing containment efforts consistent with VPD’s measures.

As you all know, the COVID-19 news and response measures is ever-changing, so I will communicate any changes to our own containment measures as decisions are made. At bottom, the most important step we can take right now is to take the best care of one another. That is community… our community… at its finest.
